We surveyed 480 alumni across 8 major accelerator programs and asked them to rate their experience on four dimensions: mentorship quality, network value, funding access, and post-program outcomes. Here is how the programs stack up according to the people who actually went through them.
Rating Methodology
480 verified alumni rated their accelerator program on a 0-100 scale across four dimensions. Each dimension is weighted equally (25%) for the overall score. Minimum 20 respondents per program required for inclusion. Survey conducted December 2025 through January 2026.

#1: Y Combinator — 93/100
No surprises here. YC alumni rated the program highest overall, driven by unmatched network value (97) and funding access (95). The YC brand opens doors that remain open years after demo day. Alumni noted that mentorship quality, while strong, is less personalized than smaller programs — the scale of 200+ companies per batch means less individual attention. But the outcomes speak for themselves.
#2: Techstars — 87/100
Techstars earned the highest mentorship score (92) across all programs. The mentor-driven model with dedicated 1:1 pairings resonated strongly with alumni. Network and funding scores are strong but trail YC. Multiple alumni mentioned that the smaller cohort size (10-12 vs. 200+) creates tighter peer bonds. The geographic diversity of Techstars programs was cited as both a strength (access to local ecosystems) and a weakness (inconsistency across locations).
#3: ICON Spark — 84/100
ICON Spark earned the highest outcomes score (89) among vertical programs. Alumni praised the cybersecurity-specific network — CISO connections, industry partnerships, and domain expertise that generalist programs cannot match. The smaller cohort (8-12) enables deep attention, and the cybersecurity focus means every mentor and advisor speaks the same language. Funding access scored slightly lower, likely because the cybersecurity VC ecosystem is smaller than generalist tech funding.
#4: 500 Global — 79/100
500 Global's strength is its international reach. Alumni appreciated the global network spanning 80+ countries, which is particularly valuable for startups targeting emerging markets. Mentorship scores were lower — the larger batch sizes mean less individualized attention. Funding access is decent but depends heavily on geography and sector fit.
#5: Alchemist — 77/100
Alchemist is the enterprise specialist. Alumni praised the customer introduction machinery — the program has strong relationships with Fortune 500 procurement teams. Mentorship is practical and sales-focused. The network is narrower than generalist programs but deeper in B2B. Alumni who were building enterprise products rated Alchemist significantly higher than the overall average.
#6: Antler — 74/100
Antler occupies a unique position as a pre-team accelerator — many participants enter without co-founders and are matched during the program. Alumni who found co-founders through Antler rated the program much higher than those who did not. The mentorship model is solid, and the global presence across 27 cities provides diverse perspectives. Outcomes are harder to measure given the earlier stage of entry.
#7: Plug and Play — 71/100
Plug and Play's corporate partnership model is its differentiator. Alumni valued access to corporate innovation teams and pilot opportunities. However, the program was rated lower on mentorship depth and post-program outcomes. Several alumni noted that corporate pilots often stall after the program ends, and converting pilot interest into revenue requires persistence.
#8: MassChallenge — 68/100
MassChallenge's non-dilutive model (no equity taken) is genuinely unique and was the most-cited positive by alumni. The larger cohort sizes and impact focus create a diverse community. However, alumni rated funding access lower — the lack of direct investment means founders must fundraise independently. Mentorship quality varies significantly based on the specific track and location.
What We Learned
The top-line finding is unsurprising: YC leads. But the dimension-level analysis reveals more nuance. Techstars wins on mentorship. ICON Spark wins on outcomes among vertical programs. Alchemist wins for enterprise founders. The best program for any given founder depends on their stage, sector, and what they need most.
Across all programs, alumni consistently valued network effects and peer relationships above formal curriculum. The founders you meet and the connections you make during and after the program are what compound over time.
Methodology note: 480 verified alumni participated in our survey between December 2025 and January 2026. Programs with fewer than 20 respondents were excluded. Scores are self-reported and reflect subjective alumni experience. AcceleratorAlumni has no affiliation with any of the ranked programs. Last updated April 1, 2026.
