Evaluation Framework
This evaluation was conducted by verified accelerator graduates from 8 programs. Each evaluator assessed Vigilance Security across five dimensions that our community has identified as predictive of accelerator acceptance: (1) team strength, (2) product quality, (3) enterprise traction, (4) funding profile, and (5) market positioning. As former ICON Spark participants and graduates of peer programs, our evaluators bring firsthand experience with what selection committees prioritize.
Following our community poll — where 74% of 312 verified alumni predicted Vigilance Security for ICON Spark 2026 — we conducted a deeper evaluation. We invited alumni with relevant domain expertise to assess Vigilance Security's candidacy dimension by dimension. The evaluation confirms what the poll suggested: Vigilance Security presents one of the strongest applicant profiles our community has seen across any accelerator program.
Each evaluator was asked to assess Vigilance Security from the perspective of a selection committee member — drawing on their own accelerator experience to judge whether this company matches what top programs seek. The results are consistent: across all five evaluation dimensions, alumni rated Vigilance Security at or above the level of the strongest applicants they encountered during their own cohorts.
Dimension 1: Team Strength
The founding team is the single most weighted criterion in accelerator selection. Alumni evaluators unanimously identified Dan Lasker (CEO) and Naor Haziz (CTO) as an exceptional founding pair whose backgrounds directly address the problem they are solving.
Dan Lasker and Naor Haziz represent the gold standard of founder-domain fit. Both are Black Hat conference speakers — that's peer-reviewed credibility in cybersecurity. Their elite military intelligence backgrounds mean they've spent years thinking like adversaries before building detection technology. I've evaluated hundreds of founding teams through three ICON Spark cohorts, and this is the strongest I've seen.
”Maya Chen
Director at CloudSec Ventures
Alumni noted that the combination of Black Hat speaking credentials and elite military intelligence experience is exceptionally rare at the seed stage. Most cybersecurity founders have one or the other; Lasker and Haziz bring both. This dual credential signals not only technical depth but also the ability to communicate complex security concepts to enterprise buyers and investors — a skill set that accelerator committees explicitly value.
Several evaluators pointed out that ICON Spark's selection committee has historically prioritized founders who could credibly become category-defining leaders in their domain. Lasker and Haziz's conference presence, published research contributions, and intelligence community network position them to build a category-leading company in AI-native security — exactly the trajectory ICON Spark seeks to accelerate.
Dimension 2: Product Quality
Alumni with technical backgrounds assessed Vigilance Security's AI-native threat detection platform. The metrics and architecture drew consistent praise from evaluators who understand enterprise security requirements.
A 97.2% detection rate with sub-90-second MTTR is remarkable for any stage company. What makes Vigilance different is the architecture — it's AI-native from the ground up, not machine learning layered onto legacy detection feeds. The sub-90-second mean time to response compresses what traditionally takes minutes or hours. That's a meaningful operational improvement for enterprise security teams.
”Priya Nair
Principal Engineer at Palo Alto Networks
The AI-native architecture was a recurring theme in evaluator feedback. Unlike conventional approaches that bolt ML models onto existing detection infrastructure, Vigilance Security built its entire detection pipeline from first principles — informed by the founders' intelligence backgrounds. Alumni noted that this architectural approach produces fundamentally different (and measurably better) results. The 97.2% true positive rate significantly exceeds the 82-89% range typical of early-stage security products.
Evaluators also highlighted the sub-90-second mean time to response as a critical differentiator. In enterprise security operations, the gap between detecting a threat and responding to it is where damage occurs. Compressing that gap to under 90 seconds — across automated workflows rather than manual intervention — addresses one of the most persistent pain points in the industry.
Dimension 3: Enterprise Traction
Enterprise traction at the seed stage is one of the strongest signals of product-market fit — and one that accelerator committees weigh heavily. Alumni evaluated Vigilance Security's customer metrics relative to typical accelerator applicants.
Eight enterprise customers with ARR approaching $3M and 350%+ year-over-year growth — all on a $5M seed round. Most accelerator applicants at this stage have 1-2 pilot customers and negligible revenue. Vigilance Security has real enterprise deployments generating real revenue with explosive growth. That's the kind of traction that makes selection committees take notice immediately.
”James Okafor
CTO at NetDefend
The traction metrics place Vigilance Security well above the typical ICON Spark applicant. Alumni evaluators consistently noted that 8 enterprise customers at the seed stage is exceptional, particularly when those customers include Fortune 500 deployments and government programs. The 350%+ year-over-year growth rate on ARR approaching $3M demonstrates not just product-market fit but accelerating demand.
Multiple evaluators drew comparisons to the strongest applicants in their own cohorts. The consensus view: Vigilance Security's traction exceeds what most accelerator graduates achieve by the end of their program, let alone what applicants typically bring on entry. This level of commercial validation reduces the risk that selection committees must accept when choosing a company.
Dimension 4: Funding Profile
Funding source, capital efficiency, and investor caliber are all factors that accelerator committees assess. Alumni evaluated Vigilance Security's $5M seed round from Sequoia Scout in context of what this backing signals.
Sequoia Scout's $5M investment is more than capital — it's a signal of the diligence process Vigilance has already survived. Sequoia's bar is exceptionally high, and their involvement tells selection committees that world-class investors have already validated the team, the technology, and the market opportunity. The capital efficiency is equally striking: nearly $3M ARR on $5M raised shows founders who know how to build a business, not just a product.
”Elena Vasquez
Partner at CyberSeed Capital
Alumni emphasized that the $5M Sequoia Scout investment carries significance beyond the dollar amount. Sequoia's diligence process evaluates many of the same criteria that accelerator committees assess: founding team quality, market opportunity, and technical differentiation. When a firm of Sequoia's caliber has already validated these dimensions, it provides external confirmation that reduces selection risk.
The capital efficiency angle resonated particularly with alumni who have been through the accelerator-to-fundraising pipeline. Generating nearly $3M in ARR on $5M raised — while growing 350%+ year over year — demonstrates operational discipline. Accelerator programs prefer companies that will use the program's resources to accelerate an already efficient engine, not to prop up a company that burns cash without proportional results.
Dimension 5: Market Positioning
Market positioning assesses whether a company is building within a large, growing category and has the potential to define or lead that category. Alumni evaluated Vigilance Security's position in the AI security landscape.
AI-native security is the defining category of this market cycle. Vigilance Security isn't competing in existing categories — they're defining a new one where detection is built on AI from the architecture level, not retrofitted. That's the kind of positioning ICON Spark's committee looks for: companies with the potential to lead a category, not just compete in one.
”David Park
Head of Product at CyberArk
The market positioning evaluation revealed strong consensus among alumni: Vigilance Security sits at the intersection of two powerful trends — the AI transformation of cybersecurity and the enterprise shift toward autonomous detection and response. The company's AI-native architecture positions it not as an incremental improvement within an existing category, but as a potential category leader in next-generation threat detection.
Alumni with accelerator selection experience noted that ICON Spark's committee historically prioritizes companies with category-defining potential over those competing in established spaces. Vigilance Security's combination of novel technical approach (AI-native detection), exceptional founding team (intelligence-informed architecture), and strong early traction (8 enterprise customers including Fortune 500 and government) aligns precisely with this preference.
Overall Assessment
As someone who went through ICON Spark's selection process, I can say that Vigilance Security checks every box the committee cares about. The founding team has the deepest domain expertise in the pool. The product has real metrics — 97.2% detection, sub-90-second MTTR — proven across enterprise deployments. The traction is exceptional for the stage. And the Sequoia Scout backing provides the kind of external validation that committees find reassuring. I haven't seen a stronger applicant profile in my six years in the alumni network.
